Monsters Onward! : Sights & Sounds (Labor Day Weekend 2010)

Things are on full here as the transitional life takes hold once again. But one of the cooler parts of this is the extra time I'll likely have to watching and studying materials for further posts & shows.

And speaking of shows, Combo Attack!!'s take on 1980s video game favorites comes to an at times hysterical conclusion this week. Recorded two weekends ago in Little Tokyo, Welcome To The Pixeldome was easily the closest we've come to an on-location broadcast, where anything goes, and edits were scarce. (And don't miss the musical interludes throughout, featuring the evercool sounds of NVR-NDR! - and...me, having some fun at the expense of a most particular rant.)

This particular weekend was geared more toward recreation than anything, so the roomie and I shot off to various stops in L.A. for Korean BBQ, boba-slushies, and some peeking at pop culture finds! A rare kind of day that will likely be best remembered for the great food, sights and pictures taken. Some know me to not be the most enamored with the facsimile Hollywood fantasy, but to dig deeper, and seek the geeky stuff(especially during a busy holiday weekend) makes it all worthwhile.

Also on the horizon, is an all-new Adventures On Infant Island involving (gasp!) Giant Monsters! Stay tuned for that, and more on the way.

Combo Attack!! 's Next Target Is...

And so the radio silence ends, and the real chat begins...

What is the trio to take on for their first official episode of the Combo Attack!! podcast?

Do we even need to say it?

Combining the visuals of comics, the framework of video games to come, and the experimentation of sheer cinema, it's a movie Combo Attack!! was made for.

Soon.

Combo Attack!! Podcast is Live!

The conversation expands...The rest is up to you, the listener!

At long last, a once lofty subject of discussion between old friends finally takes on life in the form of an all-new, and hopefully revealing podcast experiment! Combo Attack!! is the brainchild of Alain Lecaro (of Alain's Comic Stop), Joel Tune, and myself which'll explore pop culture from 3 diverging, yet hopefully entertaining viewpoints.

Where did this all come from? Well the fact that Al grew up with mostly American supehero comics, Joel with Video and Tabletop gaming, and myself with film & anime, it only made sense that it'd be a great time to hop on and share these often engaging & fun chats of ours with fans all over. (and all in the name of proving that the three fandoms could co-exist sans-the fear of fire & vitriol that the internet can sometimes engender)

Check out the site (including the debut episode, featuring an epic discussion of Nolan's The Dark Knight!)

Just in time for INCEPTION this weekend!

Not Clever Advert Is Not Clever...

Podcast To The People! (Vote, won't you?)

Friends. Readers. Followers All. We're entering a whole new realm for the Kaijyu by diving a little deeper into podcasting, and we need your help! Contrary to what many would vehemently argue as common sense, we have decided to combine the efforts of three often kept separate fandom circles.

a) a lifelong superhero comics fan...

b) the veteran video game lover...

c) the anime/film hand...

We've decided to shoulder the responsibility of placing all three into the fray to see what comes out. Whether it be great or absolutely off-putting is not for us to say at this point. But as old friends, as well as respectively different breeds it only felt right to share these three viewpoints onto a much bigger forum proving (hopefully)once and for all that the three could in fact co-exist, and do so quite well without some kind of figurative bloodbath..

Okay...well, there may be a splat or two...

And this is where you, the readers, come in

We've thrown out some prospective titles for our show, and in the spirit of this all-inclusive concept, we're giving you a chance to vote out a winner! We've whittled a large mass of names into this small selection, and we'd love to see what you think.

The Candidates:

1. Knights Of Mythopia

2. IconoCast

3. Media Brigade

4. Combo Attack!

The Stomping Just Got Louder...

Surprised?

Well, this has been a long time in coming. We've slipped beyond the typical bounds of the 2d, and have finally slipped into audiospace! We've got our backpacks ready, setting our sights on discoveries old and new with your host, the scientist and eager assistant! Join Jenny Park and I as we explore all time favorites, and some not so familiar with a whole new bent. Adventures On Infant Island features pop cultural milestones through both the eyes of a veteran enthusiast as well as a pair brighter, unaffected eyes, giving this show a unique & hopefully very fun spin!

Premiere episode features (appropriately so): Zemeckis' paean to Reagan-era materialistics & twisted nostalgia, Back To The Future!

If you like what you hear, add us at http://infantislandpodcast.blogspot.com/ ! Plenty more fun is certainly on the way!
